The maker
Made by hand. Designed to look stitched.
Strange Forms started with a simple idea: I love the look of embroidered textiles, but actual embroidery can make a large patterned blanket much more expensive.
So instead of reproducing embroidery literally, I decided to draw it.
Each pattern begins as an illustration and is built up with thousands of small marks that imitate the appearance of thread and stitches. The finished artwork is printed onto the blanket, creating the visual character of embroidery without turning the blanket into an extremely expensive craft project.
I draw the patterns digitally, but I try to keep the imperfections and rhythm of a hand-drawn illustration. The goal isn't to make something that looks mechanically perfect. It's to make something that feels like a textile pattern someone could have spent days stitching by hand.
